My Story

In June of 2015, at the age of 43, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

A few years ago during my yoga teacher training program

We had just celebrated our son's first birthday.  My marriage was less than a year old.  I can't die now, I just got everything I wanted!  

My husband was diagnosed with diabetes a few weeks after my cancer diagnosis.  It was not a good month.  

Something had to change, and fast!  Our health had to rise to the top of our priority list immediately.  

I came to the realization that I'd spent decades over-taxing my immune system with fast food, processed meals, too much wine, not much exercise, too few fruits and veggies, occasional smoking, lackluster sleep habits, way too much stress, etc...  You know the story.  

I found myself tipping the scales at 211 lbs.  I'm 5'3".  Not good.

It was then that I started to embrace whole foods and quality nutrition to bring ourselves back to health.  

I employed as many healing modalities as I could get my hands on and did a ton of research.  I'd like to share what I learned with you.   

Since embracing these healthy habits, my husband and I have released over 45 lbs each (and counting!)  

I offer lifestyle programs to improve the health of your body, mind and spirit.

My Health Journey….just less than a year ago, I was sick and I looked and felt terrible. I worked out 8-10 hours a week and thought I ate pretty well. In September of 2013 I hit my breaking point on a family camping trip over Labor Day Weekend. I woke up after sleeping on the ground in a tent and could not move. I knew that there was something wrong with me.

I’d had 3 surgeries in 2 years on my back and both feet and I was still in a lot of pain. My doctor was just about to do a 3rd surgery on my foot when I asked if I might have Rheumatoid Arthritis (that is what I surmised by reading on the internet). He looked again at my X-Rays and agreed. Needless to say, I did not have the 3rd surgery.

As I went through The Healthy Edge and learned more about how my diet and certain food that I was eating made my condition worse, I went through a transformation. I no longer drag through my day, I look forward to golfing, riding my bike and walking my dog. All things that I didn’t have the energy for while I was suffering for the last 3 years. I feel like a new person and owe a lot of it to Amber and The Healthy Edge.

I spent most of my life living with body image issues.

I became a mother for the first time in October 2014. While I was so blessed to have been able to carry a healthy and beautiful baby girl, I was left with a body that wasn't familiar to me.
 
Not only did I have weight to lose, I had work to do on getting to the bottom of why I had the body image issues I've had for years - and ultimately how to change those belief systems.
 
Kara held my hand through the process. Not only did she teach me the fundamentals of clean eating, she had tons of knowledge on clean living overall.
